Five pieces for a long weekend in Dubai

What actually earns a spot in the travel pouch.

Share:

Our Marina boutique sees a lot of the same question from Nairobi customers passing through: what actually earns a spot in a carry-on for three or four days? After a few years of watching what comes back re-worn and what comes back untouched, here’s the short list.

One necklace that does day and night

Something plain enough for the beach, substantial enough for dinner — a single chain with one small pendant beats two “nice” necklaces that only suit one setting each.

Stud earrings, not drops

Drops catch on scarves, pillows, and hoods. Studs survive a nap on the plane and still look finished at dinner.

A stacking ring set, not three separate rings

One small box instead of three, and they’re designed to sit together, so you can’t get the pairing wrong at 6am packing in the dark.

A cuff, not a bangle set

One cuff reads as intentional. A handful of loose bangles is the first thing that gets left in a hotel drawer.

Nothing you’d be upset to lose

Save the once-in-a-lifetime piece for occasions at home where you can take it off and put it straight back in its box. Travel is for the pieces that are beautiful, not irreplaceable.
